llms.txt Generator: Create an llms.txt File for Your Website

llms.txt generator building a Markdown file with a title, summary and page links, with an AI robot beside the laptop

Use this free llms.txt generator to create a correctly formatted llms.txt file for your website in a minute. Add your site name and summary, paste your key page URLs (or your XML sitemap), and the tool builds the Markdown file, checks for common problems and lets you copy or download it. It runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you type is uploaded.

llms.txt Generator

Create a clean llms.txt file for your website. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

One or two sentences about what the site covers. Shown as a quote under the title.

Plain text only, no headings. For example who writes the content or how often it is updated.

One page per line: URL | Title | Short description. Title and description are optional. Start a group with ## Section name. Put less important links under ## Optional. You can also paste the contents of an XML sitemap.

New to the format? Read our guide What Is llms.txt? for what it does, who reads it and whether your site needs one.

How to Use the llms.txt Generator

  1. Enter your website name. It becomes the H1 title, the only required part of the file.
  2. Write a short summary of what your site covers, in one or two sentences.
  3. Add optional notes, such as who writes the content or how often it is updated.
  4. Paste your pages, one per line, as URL | Title | Description. Start a group with ## Section name and put secondary links under ## Optional.
  5. Click Generate, review the warnings, then copy the result or download it as llms.txt.

Shortcut: paste the contents of your XML sitemap into the pages box. The tool reads every <loc> URL and creates titles from the URLs. You can then edit the titles, add descriptions and remove pages you do not want listed.

What the Tool Checks

CheckWhy it matters
Missing site nameThe H1 title is the only required part of the format
Missing summaryA short summary helps AI tools understand the site quickly
Lines that are not full URLsLinks must be complete, starting with http:// or https://
Duplicate URLsRepeated links waste space and add no value
Links to several domainsUsually a copy-paste mistake from another site
Links without descriptionsShort notes make each link more useful
Very long listsThe file should point to key pages, not every URL

Example Output

Here is the kind of file the generator produces for a small blog:

# Example Coffee Blog

> Brewing guides, equipment reviews and coffee basics for home baristas.

## Brewing Guides

- [Pour-Over Coffee Guide](https://example.com/pour-over-guide/): Ratios and step-by-step method
- [French Press Guide](https://example.com/french-press/): Grind size, timing and common mistakes

## Optional

- [About Us](https://example.com/about/)

Which Pages Should You Include?

  • Your main guides, pillar pages and most useful articles.
  • Tools, products or documentation pages people rely on.
  • About and contact pages, usually under “Optional”.

Leave out thin pages, tag archives, thank-you pages, private pages and anything set to noindex. On this site, our host’s automatic file listed many noindexed posts until we replaced it, so it is worth reviewing whatever you publish.

How to Add the File to Your Website

  1. Download the file from the tool and keep the name llms.txt.
  2. Upload it to the root folder of your site (often public_html) using your host’s file manager or FTP.
  3. Open https://yourdomain.com/llms.txt in a browser to confirm it loads as plain text.
  4. Update it when you publish or remove important pages.

If your host or a plugin already creates the file automatically, check its contents first and avoid having two systems competing for the same URL.
