    What Is FAQ Schema?

    FAQ schema is structured data from schema.org that labels a list of questions and their answers on a page. It tells search engines and other machines, in a standard format, exactly which text is a question and which text is its answer.

    <script type="application/ld+json">
    {
      "@context": "https://schema.org",
      "@type": "FAQPage",
      "mainEntity": [
        {
          "@type": "Question",
          "name": "How long does SEO take to work?",
          "acceptedAnswer": {
            "@type": "Answer",
            "text": "Most sites need several months of consistent work before results are clear."
          }
        }
      ]
    }
    </script>

    How to Add FAQ Schema in WordPress

    MethodHowNotes
    Custom HTML blockAdd a Custom HTML block anywhere on the page and paste the codeSimple and works with any theme
    SEO plugin FAQ blockUse the FAQ block from Rank Math or Yoast instead of this codeThe block shows the questions and adds the schema for you, so do not add both
    Theme or header codePaste into a page-specific code area if your theme provides oneMake sure it only loads on that page

    Use only one source of FAQ schema per page. Two copies of the same FAQ markup cause duplicate structured data.

    Will FAQ Schema Show Rich Results in Google?

    Probably not for most websites. Since 2023, Google shows FAQ rich results only for well-known, authoritative government and health websites, so a typical blog or business site will not see the expandable questions in Google results. Google still reads valid FAQ markup and it causes no harm.

    FAQ schema remains useful because it gives your question-and-answer content a clear, machine-readable structure. Other search engines and AI-driven answer tools can use structured content like this, and writing FAQs pushes you to answer real questions directly, which helps readers regardless of rich results.

    FAQ Schema Rules and Best Practices

    • The questions and answers in the code must also be visible on the page. Never mark up hidden text.
    • Use FAQ schema for questions you answer yourself. Pages where users submit answers (forums) should use QAPage instead.
    • Write complete answers. One-word answers are not helpful.
    • Do not use FAQs for advertising or repeat the same FAQ on many pages.
    • Keep the markup up to date when you edit the visible FAQ.

    How to Test Your FAQ Schema

    Frequently Asked Questions

    Is this FAQ schema generator free?

    Yes. It is free to use with no sign-up and no limit on the number of questions.

    Can I use HTML in answers?

    Google allows a few basic tags in answer text, such as links, lists and bold text. Plain text is the safest choice and works everywhere.

    How many questions should I add?

    Add the questions your readers genuinely ask, usually between three and ten. More is not better if the answers are thin.

    Does FAQ schema improve rankings?

    No, structured data is not a direct ranking factor. It helps search engines understand the content; the quality of the answers is what matters to readers.
